This year for our holiday episode we cover one of the bloodiest Christmases in Texas history as we discuss the Santa Claus Bank Robbery of 1927. Join us on this time-traveling trip back to a terrifying holiday.
Three men were gunned down at the Hilltop Grocery store between McKinney and Princeton in the early morning of May 11, 1974. The murders would soon be connected to a fourth man found dead in Waco the day before. The killer, Robert Excell White, would later become known as the "Dean of Texas Death Row," the longest-serving prisoner on death row in Texas history at the time.
In January of 1991, the community of Laredo was shocked by a triple homicide at a residence of prominent businessman and pastor James Smiley. Three teenagers were arrested for the horrible crime but their sentences were drastically different. This is a crime where many questions remained unanswered and many believe justice has not prevailed.
